This isn't a book review blog, I'll admit, but this challenge had me piqued. Australian literature (in my views) is rare and I am usually not that interested in it. But that's only because I haven't read too many of it! So I'm undertaking this challenge to broaden my views and hopefully make me discover some great books that I never thought I'd actually like.
Here is what Nic from Irresistible Reads said about the challenge:
So, I have been signing up for some reading challenges for 2011 when I noticed there was none for Aussie YA books. I know a few bloggers who are passionate about Aussie YA so I thought why not host a challenge to encourage more people to read Australian young adult fiction. So with a lot of help from Nomes at Inkcrush, together we have created the Aussie YA Reading Challenge 2011:
The challenge is as follows:
Australian participants - Read at least 12 young adult books by Australian authors from 1st January, 2011 to 31st December, 2011.
International participants - Read at least 6 young adult books by Australian authors from 1st January, 2011 to 31st December, 2011.
They can be old or new titles, however no re-reads.
It is open to everyone. You don’t have to be a blogger but you MUST POST A REVIEW. Reviews can be posted anywhere - Blogs, Goodreads, Shelfari or non-bloggers can even do a guest post on a blog like mine.
You can join anytime. The challenge runs from 1st January 2011 to 31st December, 2011.
There will be prizes throughout the year and guest posts and interviews from some awesome Aussie authors.
Sounds cool, right? At first, I was a bit unsure since I don't find Aussie literature that great (I'm such a bad Aussie!!), but then I decided, well, why not? So, yeah... these are some of the books that I want to read-- sadly there are no re-reads, as I'd love to visit some old favourites of mine. :)
To Read:
- You Had Me at Halo, Amanda Ashby (review)
- Good Oil, Laura Buzo (review)
- Embrace, Jessica Shirvington (review)
- Enticed, Jessica Shirvington
- Fury, Shirley Marr (review)
- Mercy, Rebecca Lim (review)
- Stolen: a letter to my captor, Lucy Christopher (review)
- Friendship on Fire, Danielle Weiler (review)
- Burn Bright, Marianne de Pierres (review)
- Feeling Sorry for Celia, Jaclyn Moriarty (review)
Here, I will be adding books to the list as well as crossing off those that I've read.
