So I came by Jennifer's website a month or so ago and found out about her new YA Mythos Academy series. I saw the blurb for Touch of Frost and immediately wanted to readit. I love mythology books-- and they're getting pretty popular too, like dystopians. Anyways, I've been sooo excited for this book and totally celebrated when I was abloe to get it.My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.
But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why—especially since I should have been the one who died. . .
Touch of Frost is about Gwen Frost, who is a Gypsy-- we find out more about them at the end of the book. Her powers are that she can touch objects and see their history and the vibes people have lefton them. She can also touch people and know their deepest, darkest secrets; everything they've done, their guilt, their memories. Pretty invasive, huh? Well, she gets sent off to Mythos Academy (I know, original name, huh?) a couple of months after her mum is killed by a drunk driver, and this is a boarding school for the rich teens who are Amazons, Nnjas, Spartans, Vikings, Valkyries, etc. Well, Gwen totally doesn't fit in because everyone there is awarrior, and Gwen barely even manages to believe that there are gods and goddesses out there, despite all the magic happening in front ofher.
So Gwen is a nobody. She doesn't have any friends and isn't a warrior. So when a girl dies, she decides to make use of her Gypsy powers. Now Gwen makes money by finding items for people for a small fee, so she thinks that if she touches the dead girl, she'll get a vibe from the killer. But nope. Nada. So whilst she is also being an amateur detective, there's this guy... Logan Quinn. Spartan. Washboard abs. Hottie. Major badass. And he seems interested in Gwen. Ooh la la.
So I loved this book. This book had a mystery, hot guys, mythological creatures and was full of magic. This is exactly the kind of book I like best! Jennifer Estep did a great job for her YA series. I totally delt like I connected with Gwen and it was almost like I was there myself, which would have been the coolest thing ever.
Gwen is smart, sarcastic, funny and quick-witted. She doesn't scare easily-- even though there areplenty of things to be scared of at Mythos-- and she is definitely the good guy here. Oh, and Logan-- man, he frustrated me! He got all cold and stuff when Gwen refused to kiss him because of her psychometry and then he was just so... arrgh!!
My verdict: Full of magic and excitement, as well as a spunky heroine, this book is definitely worth reading. Oh, and it's only $6.80 on Amazon for the Kindle version. Get a great book for a discounted price. (I swear to God I'm not pimping it out.)
