Have you ever read a book where you thought it was good and then it got even better in the last few chapters? For me, Forgotten was like that. Also, it's just an excellent book!I remember forwards.
I remember forwards, and forget backwards.
My memories, bad, boring, or good, haven't happened yet.
So I will remember standing in the fresh-cut grass with the black-clad figures surrounded by stone until I do it for real. I will remember the funeral until it happens - until someone dies.
And after that, it will be forgotten.
Here's the thing about me: I can see my future, but my past is blank.
I see the future in flashes, like memories. I remember what I'll wear tomorrow, and a car crash that won't happen till this afternoon. But yesterday has evaporated from my mind - just like the boy I love. I can't see him in my future. I can't remember him from my past. But today, I love him. And I never want to forget how much.
I'm gonna rave about this one for a looong time. And it deserves it! Have you heard? It got a movie deal before ti was even published! Cat Patrick is a fricken' genius!
Forgotten is about a girl who forgets what happens the day before and remembers what happens in the future. She knows when a guy will break up with his girlfriend, what grief her best friend's decision will bring, but she cannot remember what happened the day before. Reading this book, I tried to imagine what that would be like and how it would feel to turn around and see someone and not know who they are. I couldn't! It'd be terrifying.
This book ended up being very emotional for me. I was excited, confused, scared, eager and then Cat Patrick finished off with me crying happy tears. I very rarely have such a huge reaction to a book and for Forgotten to have done that means I'm very much in love with it.
The writing is simple and witty. Cat Patrick's debut is stunning and I was left amazed when I closed the book. I loved the characters, the plot, the mystery, the romance. Thsi book ticked pretty much every box for me! There are very few books that I can re-read over and over, but Forgotten will always be on that list.
What made me fall completely in love were the last ten chapters. These were the bits that made me sit up and read harder. I was going, "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!!" the whole time during those ten or so chapters. I thought it would end at the most critical point, I thought it wouldn't work out and I'd hate it.But it's perfect!
My verdict: Pretty gushy and crap review, but this book is amazing and I am so happy that I noticed it by chance whilst shopping for books. Cat Patrick, you've done an amazing job! i hope you come to Australia so I can meet you and gush to you in real life!!
