Chicago is beset by supernatural tensions, and Merit-- vampire protector of a safe haven called Cadogan house-- is worried that the humans will be reaching for their pitchforks any minute. It doesn't help that yet another vampire rave is broken up by the mayor, and a new inhibition- reducing drug is circulating through the community. It's up to Merit to put her house in order-- literally. And if that takes getting a little blood on her hands, so be it.
*Don't read if you don't want spoilers from previous books*

Oh my God. I know I should wait a while before posting this review, but I can't NOT review it now. I just have to get it all out right now.

I have been a huge fan of the Chicagoland Vampires series since I started reading the books last year. I fell in love with Merit, Ethan, Malik, Lindsey, Mallory, Catcher and Jeff-- to name a few. I fell in love with the story, the action, the romance... this is one of the best vampire series I've read in a while, probably coming second to Vampire Academy and The Night Huntress series.

Anyways, I was so excited for this book to come out. I bought it for my e-reader as soon as I could and read it within a day. I loved it. I always love more Merit and Ethan. The last book left me with expectations of a romance between these two that would last more than a day (seriously, Ethan? Make up your mind!!) and I hoped that this book would finally have Merit together with Ethan.

This book met my expectations with a mystery, lots of action and a steamy make-out scene... but no Merit/Ethan. That was okay by me-- until the last two chapters. They are what broke my heart so absolutely. You could hear my "NOOOO! You stupid cow!!" from two towns away, I swear.... As well as my other "Oh my God"s and "NO. WAY"s. More spoilers below in white-- highlight if you want to read them, but beware that this WILL spoil the entire book for you if you haven't already read it:

I can't believe Chloe Neill did this. To ETHAN. I can't believe she killed him off! I HATE HER. She says to trust her? You turned one of my favourite heroes into a bloody pile of ASH. ASH THAT MEANS ETHAN CANNOT BE REVIVED.

But I believe Mallory's mention of dark magic as well as Tate's magic may be our only hope. Probably not. But I'm pretty sure that Ethan isn't gone for good. Feel free to share your theories in the comments! :)

So yes... this book had it all for me, as well as a wicked cliffhanger ending. This made me cry, laugh, celebrate... this is definitely one of those emotionally draining books which make you catatonic for the next couple of days because you gave your all to this book.

My verdict: Guys, I know I should give this a low rating because of what Ms Neill has done, but I can't. I hate and love this book at the same time and if I could, I would hypnotise all of you to read this series. A definite add to all of your TBR piles!

I have literally just finished the book, i cried my eyes out. I really expected Merit and Ethan to finally get it all out in the open and that there love was complete, i was totally heart broken. How dare she kill of Ethan in this book, their relationship was one of the main factors to the series, and one of the main reason Merit was so good. Now with Ethan gone (her total long lost love), her heart broken, she will never be the same Merit. Never again will their bickering be funny and laughable, she'll NEVER fall that in love again!!! How awfully sad!!!
