Aisling finds her true calling when she travels to Paris to deliver a medieval object that is part of a set sought after for the power it wields.

There she meets the handsome Drake, a man who is not at all what he seems. Implicated in the circumstances of two murders, Aisling, the demon she summons for help (and subsequently can’t get rid of) named Jim, and Drake find themselves caught up in a web of lies and confusion that could well result in the demon lords of hell ruling the mortal world.

So I had originally read MacAlister's Silver Dragons series first, so I was a bit fuzzy on Aisling (pronounced Ashling) and Drake's history. I was excited to read this series because I love, love, love dragons, especially Katie's ones.

So we start off with Aisling trying to get through security at an airport in Paris because her uncle has set her up as a courier, and she's delivering a small dragon figurine to a rich lady. She then gets to the lady's house via a very nice taxi driver (who we will see more of throughout the series) and discovers that the woman has been murdered - as a sacrifice for some sort of demon.

While Aisling is trying not to panic and is figuring out what the hell to do, a (very hot!) man comes inside the room, and proceeds to steal Aisling's gold dragon - the one she was supposed to deliver. Drake Vireo will rue the day he stole Aisling's dragon - she finds out more about him and along the way, she learns she's some sot of Guardian, magic exists, and that he is a dragon. Basically, Aisling is thrown head first into a magical murder mystery while trying to get back her dragon figurine.

Aisling is awesome. She manages to keep a (somewhat) cool head, and has a very minimal sort of reaction to the whole magical world thing. No, seriously. She pretty much goes, "Okay. Will this stop me from stealing back my dragon from Drake?" Her taxi driver, Renee, takes it suspiciously well - and he made me real curious, too, when I read the sequels!

I don't know what to say abut Drake apart from this: Yum-ee! He's awesome. Hot, smart, sexy... a dragon. Mmm, who wouldn't want that piece of sexiness? Aisling, that's who! Well, not at first... Their love/hate relationship kept me on my toes, and I loved reading this book so much.

My verdict: The romance, the plot, the dragons - everything., basically - made this book so awesome. I was incredibly sad when I finished it!

I have always wanted to read a Katie MacAlister book, but nobody I knew has ever recommended it. And I was never sure if the romance was a main focus.

Now I know, I'll definitely be checking out her backlist!

Great review.
